Occupational diseases means diseases developed in worker during course of workplace activities.  Reasons are variable as diseases are variable due to different sources. Asbestosis happened due to asbestos, Nystagmus which is also called as dancing eye, Siderosis is the deposition of the iron in the tissue, Musculoskeletal Disorders or MSDs are injuries and disorders that affect the human body's movement or musculoskeletal system (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, blood vessels, etc.). Common MSDs include: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Tendonitis. Muscle / Tendon strain, Occupational cancer is cancer caused by occupational hazards. Several cancers have been directly tied to occupational hazards, including chimney sweeps' carcinoma, mesothelioma, and others.
Disease happened to an individual due to smoking habit is not occupational disease however individual working in Bar is prone to cancer due to smoking by others is an occupational disease.

Asbestosis
Cause: Asbestos Fibre (Airborne during workplace activities like breaking, mechanical handling etc)
Target Organ: Lungs
People at Risk: Brake shoe industry worker engage in asbestos, roof sheet manufacture by asbestos, mining workers in asbestos.
Symptoms: Shortness of breath, chronic inflammatory and scarring disease affecting the tissue of the lungs, cancer.
Synergistic effects: Smoking addicted individuals are more prone to asbestosis.
Prevention: Use asbestos in automation (no manual intervention), no mechanical handling, separate clothes washing, paste form or wet form use of asbestos, trained workmen and contractor for asbestos handling, routine and periodic health check up.
Siderosis
Cause: Deposition of iron in the tissue (During welding etc), Bantu tribes of Africa suffer from Siderosis because they drink beer in iron utensils.
Target Organ:  Lungs and eyes.
People at Risk: Iron ore mining workers, foundries, welding activities.
Symptoms: It is often referred as benign form of pneumoconiosis. Pneumoconiosis is an umbrella term used for pulmonary disease caused by inhaling mineral dust. Sensorineural hearing loss, impairment of gait (walking disorder).
Synergistic effects: Individual engaged in HCB (Hexachlorobenzene), Smoking addicted individuals are more prone to Siderosis.
Prevention: Control measures to prevent entry of iron using nose mask, local exhaust ventilation, trained workmen and contractor, routine and periodic health check up.
Nystagmus
Cause: Repetitive and uncontrolled movement of eyes due to vibrations, workplace fatigue and stress. Generally it is caused by birth.
Target Organ:  Eyes.
People at Risk: Individual working in front of flashing light in front of one eye, high fatigue and stressful jobs, high vibration involved workplace.
Symptoms: Dancing Eyes lead to reduced vision, reduced depth perception, Problems in the brain, inner ear or the nerve pathways connecting them to the eye could result in Nystagmus, difficulty in reading small prints, focus issue, difficulty in eye contact.
Synergistic effects: Individual engaged in misuse of benzodiazepines.
Prevention: Those who are prone to Nystagmus should be kept away from high vibrations, involved in less fatigue job, avoid misuse of benzodiazepines and regular health check up should be done.
Muscoloskeletal Disorder (MSD’s)
Cause: Repetitive and more than reach motion, bad posture, long immobilization, overuse of Muscoloskeletal system.
Target Organ:  Upper body, lower body and back including joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, tendons, and structures that support limbs, neck and back.
People at Risk: Individual working on display screen (Computers), working on overreach equipment like airport baggage handlers etc.
Symptoms: Injuries or pain in the human musculoskeletal system, including the joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, tendons, and structures that support limbs, neck and back.
Synergistic effects: Poor Physical fitness of individual, improper rest schedules at home after work etc.
Prevention: Automation of the job where repetitive motion and overreach is required. Ergonomics training to all concerned individuals, job rotation, job transfer, periodic health check up.
