What is integrated management system? What are then benefits of integrated management system?

Organisations certified for more than one international management system (ISO 9000 series, EMS etc by IRCA) need to allocate separate resources, different manpower, and different documentation for same workplace. During doing repeated exercise for managing these standards, organisation feels to have some common management for all certified standard. Here they merged their certified standard like Quality standard ISO 9001, EMS ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 to manage different departments like HR, Process, Quality, Finance, Procurement, Safety, Health, and Environment. This merged standard system is known as integrated management system.

Benefits of Integrated management system:

1-      Optimum utilization of manpower.
2-      Better understanding of the management system due to paper work for one management system rather than different paper work for different standard.
3-      Optimum utilization of resources.
4-      Less number of internal and external audits. More audits hamper routine tasks as well increase stress among workmen.
5-      One common structure provides better clarity and simultaneous completion of the objectives.

6-       Improved morale, better results, less number of non compliance etc

7- More initiatives due to better understanding and different expertise will lead to true standard implementation.
8- Dealing simultaneously all business component lead to equal importance for Health and safety and other business components.

9- Organisation can compare simultaneously impact of one decision on to other business component like how quality decision can impact safety etc.

      Limitations of Integrated Management System

1- Due to Integration , probability of lengthy documents is usually unavoidable. Lengthy documents practically never seen by anyone.
2- If Integration  not done correctly, significance aspects of individual standard can be absent.
3- During Integration if all concerned not addressed properly then probably benefits of IMS never seen within the organisation.

  2. This ensures the organizations to obtain more than one ISO certification at a time. This is totally a time saving and as well as cost-effective method. Also, the Integrated Management System audit takes less time when compared to individual management system certification audits. It allows organizations to integrate more than two or three ISO standards simultaneously.
