HSG 65 (Health and Safety Guidance)- First management system developed by Health and Safety Executive in 1991. Those who are concerned with health and safety liked it very much after its launch titled as a ‘Successful Health and Safety Management’.

HS(G)  65 revised in 1997 and it becomes HSG 65  for to ease in identification between new and old version. Revision done because of its popularity and effects on health and safety management within the organisation.

Model of HSG 65

Difference between HSG 65 and OHSAS 18001

The order in which the elements are covered, the manner in which these are broken down and the nomenclature used are not always the same. This reflects the common heritage and principles of all the documents, which are based on the ‘plan/do/check/act’ model of quality management; sometimes referred to as the management ‘control loop’.

1- One basic difference is that OHSAS 18001 is auditable standard and HSG 65 is non auditable.             Hence if anybody wants to follow HSG 65 they can follow but in case of OHSAS 18001 one has to    spent money, comply with standard requirements (a lot of efforts) and then certification audit is          must.

2- Secondly, OHSAS 18001 requirements are in depth and based on continuous requirements.

3- Thirdly, HSG 65 is good for small and medium organisation whereas OHSAS 18001 can be used        at any type of organisation.

4- Fourth, OHSAS 18002 provides guidance for implementation of OHSAS 18001 whereas for HSG     65 one has to do with their own capabilities.
