ISO 14001, Global reporting initiative, Global compact, Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s), Business principles for countering bribery, SA 8000, OECD principles and UN Norms.

Selection of CSR Standard:

First step is to determine what company/ organisation wants to achieve. Are they looking for compliance only? If yes then ISO 14001 standard, SA 8000 can satisfy the compliance requirements. However in case organisation wants to secure top position in CSR then they should opt for MDGs (Millennium Development Goal) because this type of standard need vision, time and resources. After selection of the standard if company wants to build trust in stakeholder then they should do certification of the CSR standard by independent party. Some companies/ organisation follow certification and some do certification. This depends upon the reason .i.e. internal assurance by means of compliance only or external assurance by means of certification.

In case organisation wants to go for certification then they should adopt Global developed standard like GRI (Global reporting initiative) and also can develop their own internal standard.

Some standards also based on sector, country and cause. So if any company wants to justify any specific cause like environment then they can opt for that. i.e. ISO 14001 standard serve to fulfill environment cause. Also education, water are some other examples of cause. Sector specific means for shipping, automobile etc.
